Antigonish, N.S. - The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) announced today the latest sentence imposed on a fish harvester for violating fisheries regulations.
Benedict Pierro Jr., of Wagmatcook, Nova Scotia, pleaded guilty in Port Hood Provincial Court on November 18, 2009, to having been in possession of nine lobsters with carapace measuring less than 78 mm, contrary to Section 7 of the Aboriginal Communal Fishing Licences Regulations.
Provincial Court Judge Laurel Halfpenny MacQuarrie imposed a $3,500 fine on Mr. Pierro. She also ordered the forfeiture of the lobster catch valued of $702 to the Crown and prohibited Mr. Pierro from fishing the first seven days of the 2010 lobster fishery in Lobster Fishing Area 26B.
