Gleichen, Alberta
Kevin Sorenson, Member of Parliament for Crowfoot, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced Government of Canada support to help Gleichen and District Agricultural Society strengthen economic opportunities in the region.
“ Our Government, through Canada’s Economic Action Plan, is proud to invest in upgrading and improving the Beaupre Memorial Park Campground in the Hamlet of Gleichen, ” said MP Sorenson. “ This project will create job opportunities while helping to make our community a more vibrant place for residents and visitors alike. ”
Gleichen and District Agricultural Society will utilize the funding to upgrade Beaupre Memorial Park Campground through activities such as landscaping, renovating campsites, adding picnic tables and installing a chain fence. These enhancements to the accessibility and appearance of the campground are expected to increase tourism to the area, thereby providing ongoing benefits to the local economy while also fostering community pride.
Federal funding of $25,415 is being provided through the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF) as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
" The Gleichen and District Ag. Society and the Community in Bloom groups wish to thank the Community Adjustment Fund for helping our community renovate the Beaupre Memorial Campground in 2010, " said Doris Lindman, Vice President of Gleichen and District Agricultural Society. " This funding will help us by providing seven new campsites for tourists to stop and use in our small hamlet. "
The fund will provide $306 million over two years to support the most affected western Canadian communities, such as those that are heavily reliant on resource-based industries, for instance forestry, mining, agriculture and fisheries, and communities that depend on the manufacturing industry. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the fund in the four western provinces.
