Residents of Kings County will benefit from the development of a family park in the village of Port Williams, thanks to support provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a key component of the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, today announced an investment of more than $28,000 to support the creation of the park.
“The Government of Canada is supporting communities in Nova Scotia affected by the global economic downturn by putting in place measures that help communities build for the future by upgrading recreational infrastructure,” said Minister MacKay. “This project will generate local economic activity while ensuring that Kings County residents have access to recreational infrastructure that will benefit their community for years to come.”
The family park project involves an investment of $28,511.96 and will serve a need in the community for an outdoor area that offers space for children, seniors, and families alike. This investment will fund a driveway and parking area as well as a sport court area and playground equipment.
“Through the development of a park, children and families will now have a safe, fun place to play and spend time together,” said Warden Fred Whalen of the Municipality of the County of Kings. “It builds on the appeal of Port Williams and gives visitors even more reason to stay and enjoy all our community has to offer.”
Canada’s Economic Action Plan provided $500 million over two years for the RInC program, to support upgrading and renewal of recreational facilities in communities, and to encourage increased participation in physical activity and community building. The RInC program is delivered in the region by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
