Bay Bulls, Newfoundland and Labrador, 2 December 2009
The Town of Bay Bulls will upgrade its playground thanks to $24,848 in federal funding provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a key economic stimulus initiative under the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, Minister of the Atlantic Gateway and Minister Responsible for Newfoundland and Labrador made the announcement today. This federal assistance will allow the Town of Bay Bulls to install new sod, stone and fencing, as well as purchase new playground equipment.
"The Government of Canada recognizes the value of recreational facilities for Canadian families and communities," said Minister MacKay. "By providing stimulus funding for these upgrades to the Bay Bulls playground, we are investing in the well-being of our citizens and encouraging local economic activity and supporting jobs."
"We are delighted to receive this funding for our playground," said Harold Malowney, Mayor of Bay Bulls. "We have so many families who use this facility on a regular basis and who will appreciate the upgrades we can now make. Plans are also currently underway to develop our after-school and summer playground programming and these enhancements will ensure our children will be using a safe and up-to-date recreational facility."
Canada’s Economic Action Plan is providing $500 million over two years for the RInC program to support the upgrading and renewal of recreational facilities in communities, and to encourage increased participation in physical activity and community building. ACOA delivers RInC in Atlantic Canada.
