Ottawa, December 23, 2009 — The Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, issued the following statement on Christmas:
“I am pleased to extend my very best wishes to you and yours as the celebration of Christmas approaches.
“Christmas is a time of profound importance for Christians in Canada and around the world, a time of goodwill and family togetherness marked by the spirit of giving, sharing, and helping others in need.
“As we give thanks this holiday season for the many gifts that we have in our own lives, and share those gifts with our friends and families, we are encouraged to act with generosity and compassion toward those in our communities less fortunate than ourselves.
“During this season of hope and joy, I also reflect on our great fortune in living in a country that embraces diversity and finds strength, stability, and unity in the coming together of the many cultures and faiths of the world.
“As Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, I offer sincere and warm wishes for a peaceful and merry Christmas to those celebrating over the coming days, and a happy and prosperous New Year to all Canadians.”
