Ottawa, Ontario (December 18, 2009) - The Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians, today announced the appointment of Ms. Camilia Zoe-Chocolate as a member of the Wek'èezhìi Land and Water Board for a three-year term.
"Ms. Zoe-Chocolate has deep roots in the North and in particular, the Wek'èezhìi,” said Minister Strahl. “Her knowledge and experience in the region will contribute to the important work undertaken by this board."
Ms. Zoe-Chocolate has worked in wildlife management for over ten years. Having served as Lands and Environmental Director for the Dene Nation and Conservation Coordinator for the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, she has demonstrated her expertise in resource management.
The Wek'èezhìi Land and Water Board regulates the use of land and water and the deposit of waste throughout the Wek'èezhìi except in a national park or a national historic park or site administered by Parks Canada. The Board issues, amends or renews licences and permits, conducts public hearings and oversees compliance with its decisions, and, if necessary, the suspension or cancellation of licences and permits.
