Federal and provincial officials joined the NB Association of Community Business Development Corporations (CBDCs) today in Fredericton to launch the Association's Women in Business Mentorship Program, a project designed to assist women entrepreneurs throughout New Brunswick.
"The Government of Canada is committed to making strategic investments that help improve the competitiveness and productivity of local businesses and enhance long-term growth in our communities," said the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency). "Our contribution toward this mentorship program helps women grow their businesses and develop their leadership skills."
"We are pleased to join our federal and community partners in this mentoring initiative. By offering a program which will see more women participating in the workplace, earning equitable pay, taking on leadership roles, and entering more non-traditional careers, we will bring new jobs, greater investment and more prosperity to our province," said the Hon. Mary Schryer, Minister responsible for the Status of Women.
This program will help women entrepreneurs develop their leadership skills through a series of workshops to be conducted by experienced business leaders and professionals. The Association will provide networking opportunities to the graduates of this program so they can share their new found knowledge and skills with emerging women business owners of New Brunswick.
"The Mentoring Program will help the New Brunswick Association of CBDCs develop the talented women entrepreneurs of New Brunswick by giving them the opportunity to acquire knowledge by direct transfer from more experienced women entrepreneurs," said Executive Director Line Doiron. "This program, as well as other programs delivered by our six capable development officers, helps build capacity in New Brunswick. It increases the knowledge of our women entrepreneurs, fostering connections and developing leaders and role models."
The Government of Canada invested $40,000 in the project through ACOA's Atlantic Investment Partnership. The Province of New Brunswick contributed $25,000.
