The District of Chetwynd is moving forward with plans to build an in-ground concrete BMX and skateboard park thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Today, the Honourable Jay Hill, Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and Member of Parliament for Prince George-Peace River, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for a project that will create jobs in Chetwynd.
“I’m pleased to announce our Government’s support for Chetwynd’s recreational infrastructure,” said Minister Hill. “Projects like this are creating jobs right across British Columbia, while providing valuable recreational opportunities for our communities’ youth.”
Funding of $150,000 is being provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
The District of Chetwynd is building a 10,000 square foot, in-ground concrete skateboard and BMX park. Funding is going towards park design, site preparation, fabrication and installation of pre-cast skateboard and BMX park components, landscaping and installation of lighting. The park will provide a healthy, alternative recreational activity for residents of Chetwynd.
“This is the realization of a long time dream of a skateboard/BMX park for the youth of the community thanks to the funding partnership between the District of Chetwynd and the Federal Government.”
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities. A total of almost $153 million in RInC funding will be invested across the four western provinces by Western Economic Diversification Canada.
