Québec, Quebec, January 18, 2010 – Acting on behalf of the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, the Honourable Maxime Bernier, Member of Parliament for Beauce, today announced that the firm SCM-GL has been awarded $135,000 in repayable funding through the Business and Regional Growth program to pursue its expansion through the acquisition of new equipment and implementation of a commercialization strategy.
Founded in March 2001, this family-operated firm manufactures the Snow Tracker, a steering stabilizer made to fit all models of snowmobile. Mounted under the skis, this device increases the vehicle’s traction, improves its handling and provides for a more comfortable ride. The technical innovativeness of its design augurs well for the future of this Beauce invention. Once the project has been completed, SCM-GL will be in a better position to broaden its distribution network in Canada and break into the New England snowmobiling market.
“This company’s plan is based on the simple principle that improving productivity and competitiveness will lead to greater growth. Our financial assistance will serve, among other things, to help SCM-GL market its flagship product, the quality of which has already earned the firm a solid reputation well beyond our borders, and create three new full-time jobs in the wake. I am also delighted that this project promises to further the economic diversification of the Beauce area and strengthen the local manufacturing industry,” explained Maxime Bernier.
The Government of Canada adopted an economic action plan last year to help communities regain their economic health. “This large-scale measure is aimed not only at bringing about our rapid recovery, but also at laying the foundations for solid long-term economic growth and job creation. This Plan will lead to the investment of nearly $62 billion in our economy over the next two years,” added the Member of Parliament for Beauce.
