OTTAWA, February 12, 2010 - The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced the appointment of Jean-François Béland as a member of the National Gallery of Canada's Board of Trustees.
"I am pleased that Mr. Béland has agreed to sit on the Board of Trustees," said Minister Moore. "His knowledge, combined with his experience in business strategy, governance, and management, will greatly benefit the National Gallery's board."
Since 2008, Mr. Béland has served as vice-president of development at AREVA CANADA Limited, a company specializing in energy, where he previously held the position of director of development. Mr. Béland has held various policy advisor positions, in addition to having worked as a business strategy and management researcher in Canada and France.
Mr. Béland has several graduate diplomas, including master's degrees in managerial sciences from the Université Paris IX Dauphine, in business administration from the École de Management de Bordeaux in France. He also has a management degree from the École des Hautes Études Commerciales, as well as a degree in public administration from the École nationale d'administration publique de Montréal. He has a Bachelor of Political Science from the Université de Montréal, in addition to having studied Executive Education at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business in the United States.
Mr. Béland sits on the Board of Directors of the Orchestre symphonique de Gatineau and is a member of the Fondation du Collège de Montréal.
