OTTAWA – February 15, 2010 – The RCMP would like to warn the public about a recent cheque fraud that has surfaced in various parts of Canada. Be cautious of job offers to pay you in exchange for administrative work performed for companies claiming to be MET International, MET Inc. or Majestic International Electronic Technologies.
If you accept the job offer, you will receive a counterfeit cheque in the mail for an amount greater than you expected. You will then be asked to deposit the cheque in your bank account and send the fraudster the excess funds. This scam is made more believable because the cheque you receive will appear to have been drawn on a federal government account: Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). Please note that NRCan is in no way associated with MET International, MET Inc. or Majestic International Electronic Technologies.
Should you have information regarding this or any type of scam, please report it to your local police force and to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (1-888-495-8501).
