VANCOUVER, February 25, 2010 - The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, invites all Canadians to celebrate Manitoba Day and take part in tonight's victory ceremony at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
"I invite everyone to celebrate Manitoba, a province with a vibrant cultural scene and many talented artists, during Manitoba Day at the 2010 Winter Games," said Minister Moore. "Manitoba has a wonderful involvement with sport - for instance, the province has produced some of our country's best athletes, boasts a renowned curling culture, and is to date the only Canadian province to host the Pan American Games. Winnipeg was also named the 2010 Cultural Capital of Canada and is the future home of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights."
Victory ceremonies, each sponsored by a territory or province, will be held for 12 nights in Vancouver during the Olympic Winter Games. Tonight, the victory ceremony begins with a show by Manitoba, followed by athlete medal presentations and an hour-long musical performance.
The Government of Canada is proud to contribute $250,000 to CentrePlace Manitoba, the province's pavilion located at LiveCity Vancouver. CentrePlace Manitoba hosts an exhibit by the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and participates in daily ball hockey matches with the Canada Pavilion. It is a sustainable building created with Manitoba products and technology and designed to green standards.
