VANCOUVER, February 24, 2010 - The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, invites all Canadians to celebrate Ontario Day and take part in tonight's victory ceremony at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
"At tonight's victory ceremony, we will celebrate the achievements of the medallists and be treated to entertainment provided by Ontario, the province that will welcome the world to Canada for the 2015 Pan American and Parapan American Games," said Minister Moore. "Hosting international sport events provides Canada with direct sport involvement opportunities and investments in a lasting legacy of infrastructure, community, sport, and economic development for generations of Canadians."
Victory ceremonies, each sponsored by a territory or province, will be held for 12 nights in Vancouver during the Olympic Winter Games. Tonight, the victory ceremony begins with a show by Ontario, followed by athlete medal presentations and an hour-long musical performance.
Ontario Day is also being celebrated at Ontario House, home to three leading-edge signature attractions that use innovative made-in-Ontario technologies to show off unique Ontario tourism assets and great business and investment opportunities. It also hosts nightly concerts featuring artists from Ontario, as well as appearances by Olympic athletes and interactive events with Ontario's leading culinary masters.
"I invite everyone to visit Ontario House to discover why Ontario is such a great place to live, visit and invest in," said the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of State (Sport). "The 2010 Winter Games - Canada's Games - provide unprecedented opportunities to showcase our country to the world and promote Canadian tourism."
