VANCOUVER, February 18, 2010 - The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, invites all Canadians to celebrate Prince Edward Island Day and take part in tonight's victory ceremony at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
"Join us tonight to recognize the outstanding performances of tonight's medallists, who have truly achieved excellence in sport," said Minister Moore. "We also invite you to celebrate the Atlantic way of life with performances from Prince Edward Island. This province has a great sporting tradition, which includes hosting the Canada Summer Games in 2009."
Victory ceremonies, each sponsored by a territory or province, will be held for 12 nights in Vancouver during the Olympic Winter Games. Tonight, the victory ceremony begins with a show by Prince Edward Island, followed by athlete medal presentations and an hour-long artistic performance.
Today, Atlantic Canada House in Vancouver will showcase food and entertainment from Prince Edward Island. And tonight's Kitchen Party is sure to give all visitors a true taste of Atlantic Canada. The Government of Canada provided $2.5 million to Atlantic Canada House through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
Atlantic Canada House, which highlights the provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador, provides an inspiring and authentic setting to experience all that Atlantic Canada has to offer as a world-class cultural tourism destination and a great place to live, work, and visit.
