Amos and Saint-Mathieu d'Harricana, Quebec, February 25, 2010 – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, announces the awarding of financial assistance to two Abitibi-Témiscamingue firms for productivity enhancement.
Comptoirs Grani-Lab, a new company specializing in the manufacture of granite countertops, receives $173,500 in funding, half of it in the form of a non-repayable contribution, and Polyplast, a manufacturer of polyurethane parts, sees itself granted $18,845 in repayable funding, in both cases for the acquisition of leading-edge equipment.
"Ensuring the prosperity of our communities is a priority for the Government of Canada. To that end, we are proud to lend our financial support to companies that, like Comptoirs Grani-Lab and Polyplast, are making efforts to increase their productivity, develop innovative new products and expand into new markets. These two projects also promise to help stimulate the Abitibi-Témiscamingue manufacturing sector," explained the Minister of State.
Comptoirs Grani-Lab's client list includes a diverse range of enterprises from the construction industry. By acquiring the equipment needed to improve its mass production processes, the firm will be better able to meet the needs and requirements of the cabinet-makers, contractors and individuals who buy its products. This funding is being granted through the Community Adjustment Fund, a measure introduced as part of the economic action plan adopted by the Government of Canada in January 2009.
Established in 1999, Polyplast custom manufactures polyurethane parts using a cold moulding process. Its clients, a significant percentage of whom are from the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region, include mining, forestry and manufacturing companies operating in Quebec and Northern Ontario. The acquisition of a kneading machine to process polymers will help bolster the manufacturer's profitability while generating a positive impact on the region's economy. This funding is being granted through Canada Economic Development's Business and Regional Growth program.
