The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway today announced an investment of more than $59,000 to support upgrades to the Oromocto Marina that will benefit both visitors touring the region and area residents.
"The Government of Canada, through ACOA is pleased to work with communities like Oromocto to support important improvements that will generate additional economic activity in the region," said Minister Ashfield. "Through the Economic Action Plan, our government';s investment will help expand and improve services at the Oromocto Marina so it can meet an increasing demand for docking spaces from tourists and local residents."
The upgrades to the marina facilities include the construction of eight additional docking spaces; upgrades to the electrical and potable water systems; expansion of the marina';s common area, and the addition of a new security fence.
"The Town welcomes ACOA's support of the Oromocto Marina, which is an icon for tourism in the region with a reputation for excellence," said Mayor Tidd. "This joint funding will assist greatly in the Town of Oromocto's continued focus on riverfront enhancement of which the Marina plays an integral part for the Lower Saint John River boating community."
Federal funding for this project is provided through the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF), a key component of Canada's Economic Action Plan. The CAF program is providing $1 billion over two years to help create jobs and maintain employment in communities and industries affected by the global economic downturn. CAF is delivered in Atlantic Canada by ACOA.
