Residents of the Acadian Peninsula will soon enjoy improved recreational facilities thanks to a total contribution of more than $220,000 from the Government of Canada. The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway today announced funding for three different projects in the region.
“Our government, through Canada’s Economic Action Plan, is committed to supporting the vibrancy of communities in this region and strengthening our economy as a whole,” said Minister Ashfield. “Our investment of more than $220,000 in stimulus funding will bring significant improvements to key recreational facilities for the Village of Paquetville, the Town of Caraquet and the community of Pokeshaw & Black Rock. Our investment in these recreational facilities will add to the quality of life of these communities in the Acadian Peninsula.”
Canada's Economic Action Plan is providing $500 million over two years for the RInC program to support the upgrading and renewal of recreational facilities in communities across Canada. RInC projects are selected on the basis of merit and construction readiness, and must be completed before March 31, 2011. The RInC program is delivered in Atlantic Canada by ACOA.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The renovation work at the Centre des Loisirs de Paquetville includes the insulating the roof of the building; replacing windows and doors; improving the facility’s wall insulation; replaceming the existing light fixtures; new flooring, kitchen equipment and upgraded washrooms and office space. The renovation project will provide an improved recreational facility for the residents for years to come, as well as create employment opportunities. The Government of Canada is providing $168,665 to support the project through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada program (RInC). The Province of New Brunswick is investing $161,200 in the project while the Village of Paquetville will invest $167,000. The Regroupement des Organismes communautaires de Paquetville Inc. is also investing $5,135.
In the Town of Caraquet, the Club Plein Air Caraquet project involves the installation of wooden curbs around the oval skating area, the construction of an outdoor rink, expansion of the clubhouse, the installation of a ramp and lift for the slide, and lights at all facilities. The Government of Canada is providing $48,833 to the project through RInC and the Province of New Brunswick is investing $40,000. The Town of Caraquet will invest $40,000 and the Village of Bas Caraquet is providing $3000 toward the project. Finally, Corporation de Développement du Grand Caraquet will contribute $10,000 while Club Plein Air Caraquet Inc is investing $8,137.
The Pokeshaw & Black Rock project involves repairs to the roof of the community recreation centre. The old asphalt shingles have been removed and replaced with a galvanized steel roof over the 2,800 square-foot building. This work will protect the building and ensure the long-term use of the facility. The Government of Canada is providing $2,927 to the project through RInC. The Province of New Brunswick is investing $3,300 while the Pokeshaw & Black Rock Recreation Council Inc. is investing $3,383
