West Kelowna, British Columbia
The District of West Kelowna will soon see a new walking and cycling trail in the area thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“Investing in the Kinsmen Athletic Park trail will create jobs right here in West Kelowna, while providing our community with an improved recreational area to enjoy for many years to come,” said the Honourable Stockwell Day, President of the Treasury Board and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.
Project activities include land excavation and the installation of a retaining wall and crushed gravel trail surface. These improvements will support residents of West Kelowna by encouraging healthy lifestyles through increased recreational opportunities.
Funding of $23,150 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“Kinsmen Athletic Park is a much-used, much-loved venue. Every year it plays host to many baseball and soccer games for residents and visitors alike,” says Mayor Doug Findlater. “Kinsmen Park users deserve the improvements this funding from the Federal Government will provide. I know they will appreciate the new walking path and landscaping as will pedestrians in the Shannon Lake area.”
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities
