Fort St. John, B.C.
The City of Fort St. John is moving forward with local trail improvements thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada's Economic Action Plan.
Today, the Honourable Jay Hill, Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and Member of Parliament for Prince George - Peace River, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding to improve the Fish Creek Park and Community Forest Trail, which will create jobs for local residents.
"I am pleased to announce this exciting investment in Fort St. John's recreational infrastructure," said Minister Hill. "Upgrading the trails in Fish Creek Park not only provides our community with an improved recreational area, but creates immediate jobs for local workers."
Funding of $45,964 is being provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada's Economic Action Plan.
Funding will go towards rebuilding fencing, repairing stairs, upgrading trails and forest rehabilitation. Fish Creek Park is a very popular recreation destination, and the improvements will increase the recreation opportunities in Fort St. John. This multi-purpose trail provides activities in the summer and winter seasons for all age groups. The improvements made in this park work towards enhancing the lives of community residents.
"Thanks to the funding contribution through the Government of Canada, the City of Fort St. John will be able to improve pedestrian safety on the Community Forest trails, improve signage and other amenities, and create jobs for unemployed forestry workers," said Mayor Bruce Lantz from the City of Fort St. John.
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It is providing a temporary economic stimulus while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities. Western Economic Diversification Canada is delivering the Fund in the four western provinces.
