Hepburn, Saskatchewan
The Village of Hepburn will move forward with arena upgrades thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“I am pleased to announce our Government’s timely investment in Hepburn, as the extensive upgrades to the arena will ensure our community has access to the essential infrastructure we need today and in the future,” said Maurice Vellacott, Member of Parliament for Saskatoon-Wanuskewin, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.
The arena upgrades will include installing safety glass and support poles, replacing puck boards, penalty boxes, bleachers, doors, windows and score clock and upgrading change rooms. These facility improvements will enhance safety for users of the facility and ensure fire code requirements are met.
Funding of $20,000 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. The Village of Hepburn will commit an investment of $40,000, with a total project cost of $60,000.
“The Village of Hepburn and the Hepburn and District Arena Board would like to express our gratitude to the Federal Government for funding through the RInC Grant,” said Tim Wall, Secretary of the Hepburn and District Arena Board. “This funding allows for continued improvements to our arena, that would otherwise be deferred for many years. The Hepburn Arena is an important venue for winter recreational activities and is used by the residents of the Village of Hepburn, the R.M. of Laird No. 404 and surrounding communities.”
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
