QUÉBEC CITY, February 19, 2010 - The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, yesterday announced funding for the RIDEAU network (Réseau indépendant des diffuseurs d'événements artistiques unis). Bourse RIDEAU, the most important Francophone performing arts marketplace in North America, took place this year from February 14 to 18.
"Our Government recognizes the importance of arts and culture to the vitality of our communities," said Minister Moore. "Our support for the RIDEAU network demonstrates our acknowledgment and appreciation of the work of artists and presenters in the performing arts."
"We are committed to helping artists and arts organizations do what they do best, which is to create and share original works of art," added Minister Moore. "Through our support, they can plan their activities for the long term and continue to make Quebecers and all Canadians proud."
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $425,000 to the RIDEAU network for the next two years, from 2010 to 2012, through the Canada Arts Presentation Fund (formerly Arts Presentation Canada program) of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the variety and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
