Sparwood, British Columbia
The District of Sparwood is renovating the Sparwood Leisure Centre, thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“Investing in the Sparwood Leisure Centre renovation project will put Canadians to work, encourage greater participation in physical activity and use of recreational facilities, and ensure that communities across the West have access to the essential infrastructure we need today and in the future,” said Jim Abbott, Member of Parliament for Kootenay-Columbia, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.
This project is replacing the roof of the Sparwood Leisure Centre. The Centre houses childcare facilities and racquet courts, as well as the community’s only swimming pool. The renovation will extend the life of the building and is expected to be complete by August 2010.
Funding of $70,000 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“The Leisure Centre is an important community hub and activity centre in Sparwood, and we are pleased to receive assistance to replace the roof of this important facility through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada program,” said Dave Wilks, Mayor of Sparwood. “The new roof will help ensure that the building stays sound and continues to serve the community for years to come.”
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
