Nanton, Alberta
The Town of Nanton is moving forward with upgrades to the curling facility at the Tom Hornecker Recreation Centre thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“I’m pleased to announce our Government’s support for Nanton, as upgrades to this facility will create immediate jobs and strengthen our community for many years to come,” said Ted Menzies, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament for Macleod, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification
Project activities include the addition of polyethylene pipe, steel trench headers, rigid insulation, a reinforced concrete slab and flooring, in addition to viewing walls and windows. The cooling pipes and sand beddings will also be removed to increase the life expectancy of the venue. As a result of the concrete flooring, the facility will have an opportunity to expand their recreational programming and increase usage.
Federal funding of $107,333 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. The Town of Nanton has contributed $91,400 towards the project as part of their 2010 budget.
“This is an example of the right way to stimulate the economy, creating jobs and putting money into the local economy, all the while improving local infrastructure,” said Nanton Mayor John J. Blake.
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
