The Mannville & District Agricultural Society is moving forward with renovations and upgrades to the hockey arena in the Mannville Recreation Centre thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada's Economic Action Plan.
Today, Leon Benoit, Member of Parliament for Vegreville – Wainwright, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced federal funding for the project that will enhance recreational infrastructure in Mannville and provide stimulus to the local economy.
"These improvements to the Mannville Recreation Centre hockey arena will ensure our community has access to the modern and essential infrastructure we need today and in the future," Leon Benoit, Member of Parliament for Vegreville – Wainwright, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.
Built in the early 1970s, the Mannville Recreational Centre is the recreational hub of the community and surrounding areas. Federal support is helping to rejuvenate the Centre's hockey arena through the construction of two new dressing rooms for female user groups and referees. Additional upgrades include the installation of a reverse osmosis water generating unit, which will supply enough sodium free water to produce ice for the skating rink and other ice resurfacing needs that are required throughout the season.
Federal funding of $27,343 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada's Economic Action Plan.
"The Mannville & District Agricultural Society appreciates the RInC funding towards upgrading our Recreation Centre," said Michael Bury, President of the Mannville & District Agricultural Society. "The renovations to the hockey arena will significantly improve recreational services for the people of Mannville and surrounding communities. This is a four year project we've been working on and we're very pleased to be building a girl's change room and new referee room. Further, the reverse osmosis system should significantly improve the condition of the ice in both the hockey arena and the curling rink."
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities. Western Economic Diversification Canada is delivering the program in Western Canada.
