Repairs to the Cap-des-Rosiers Wharf and the Rivière Whalen Bridge
Gaspé, Quebec, February 22, 2010--Mr. Bernard Généreux, Member of Parliament for Montmagny–L'Islet–Kamouraska–Rivière-du-Loup, on behalf of the Honourable Jim Prentice, Canada's Environment Minister and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, today announced a major investment in the extensive repair work to be carried out on the Cap-des-Rosiers wharf and the Rivière Whalen bridge.
“Repairing these components of the park's infrastructure will benefit both residents and visitors, while at the same time helping the tourism industry and local economy,” said Mr. Généreux. "By maintaining the infrastructures in the Cap-des-Rosiers harbour sector, Parks Canada meets its agenda to provide safe facilities for all Canadians.”
The allotted funds are up to 4.3 million dollars and will provide the means to restore the Cap-des-Rosiers wharf and the Rivière Whalen bridge for use by park visitors and the local community. Drawings and specifications will be prepared in the coming months. Work is slated to begin following the invitations to tender.
These investments fall within the scope of a series of actions the Parks Canada Agency committed to implementing in the latest management plan for Forillon National Park. Today's announcement brings the total investment in Forillon since 2008 to nearly 12 million dollars. The funding ensures that the park remains accessible to everyone and continues to serve as one of the region's main attractions.
“Through Parks Canada, our government manages a network of protected natural and historic sites that are among the largest and most beautiful in the world," said Minister Prentice. The funds allocated today for improving the infrastructures in Forillon National Park of Canada will ensure access to the North Sector for all, and in particular, the Cap-des-Rosiers community.
