Sainte-Rose-du-Nord, Quebec, February 12, 2010 – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today announced the awarding of $829,938 in repayable financial assistance to the Pourvoirie du Cap au Leste Inc. to enable the outfitting operation to increase its accommodation capacity and improve the quality of the services it offers.
The project involves enlarging and modernizing the establishment’s main pavilion, building an additional 14 lodging units in two new cabins and setting up new common areas.
As well as providing facilities for hunting and fishing, Pourvoirie du Cap au Leste offers an array of outdoor activities that include cross-country skiing, hiking and nature watch and interpretation. Requiring an overall investment of $3,535,262, this expansion project will result in the creation of 12 new part-time jobs.
“The Pourvoirie du Cap au Leste has considerable potential for revitalizing the community of Sainte-Rose-du-Nord. Increasing the establishment’s lodging capacity will help draw a greater number of out-of-province tourists to the Fjord area, which will consequently allow the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region to better position itself among the world’s top all-season tourist destinations,” explained the Minister of State.
The outfitter is hoping to offer ecotourism activities that will not only bolster tourism traffic in the area, but that will also contribute to the diversification of the Saint-Rose-du Nord economy, which remains largely dependent on the forest industry.
This contribution has been granted through Canada Economic Development’s Community Diversification program, a measure whose aims include helping communities build their capacity to attract and retain tourists.
