OTTAWA — Canada's Transport Minister John Baird today advised Toyota drivers who are affected by the recall of accelerators to bring their cars to their Toyota dealers for servicing as soon as possible.
"The safety of Canadian drivers is of utmost importance to the Government of Canada," said Baird. "Given the nature of the problem with the accelerators, I would urge Canadian Toyota drivers who are affected by the recall to avoid taking risks and get the repair done quickly."
Toyota recalled 2.3 million vehicles in the United States and 270,000 in Canada on January 21 due to problems with sticking gas pedals that may prevent the engine from returning to idle.
"This issue is one that the Government of Canada is taking very seriously, and we will continue to ensure that all appropriate measures are being taken to protect the safety of the travelling public," added Baird. "We encourage any drivers experiencing problems with their vehicles to contact their nearest Toyota dealer."
Transport Canada will continue to closely monitor Toyota Canada's implementation of its repair plan.
