Canmore, Alberta
Blake Richards, Member of Parliament for Wild Rose, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced Government of Canada support to help Shadow Light Canada Productions Ltd. strengthen economic opportunities in Canmore and the surrounding region.
“Through Canada’s Economic Action Plan, we are encouraging greater avalanche safety and awareness while supporting the local businesses that provide this valuable training,” said MP Richards.
With the support of federal funding, Shadow Light Canada Productions Ltd. is developing a series of multimedia learning tools to be available at no cost for avalanche safety training providers and the general public. The learning materials, which include videos and images, will enable existing educators to improve their teaching programs while allowing new companies to access the resources needed to enter the market. Increased awareness of avalanche safety is also expected to contribute to the long-term sustainability of the region’s tourism sector.
“We are grateful for the generous support of the federal government, the Canadian Avalanche Foundation, Mountain Equipment Co-op, and the Canadian Avalanche Centre—all of whom recognize the need for creating new and effective methods to increase the public’s understanding of avalanche safety,” said Doug Latimer, Project Manager with Shadow Light Productions Ltd.
The developing model of the project is currently available at http://www.shadowlightproductions.ca/ (click on “Avalanche Project”), with updates to be made regularly.
Federal funding of $10,550 is being provided through the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF) as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
The fund will provide $306 million over two years to support the most affected western Canadian communities, such as those that are heavily reliant on resource-based industries. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the fund in the four western provinces.
