CAMPBELL'S BAY, Quebec, March 16, 2010 - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Member of Parliament (Pontiac), today announced funding for the Revitalize the Bay organization for its Bikes in the Bay Festival, which is taking place from June 11 to 13, 2010.
This second edition of the Festival offers a number of activities, including boat excursions along the Ottawa River, guided tours of Campbell's Bay, workshops featuring works by ceramicists and master glassmakers, performances by public storytellers, entertainment and magic shows for children, and demonstrations of wood-cutting techniques that have long been part of the region's forestry history. The Festival is counting on the participation of 23 local artists and performers and the teamwork of around 400 volunteers.
"The Government of Canada knows that investing in culture and heritage has a definite impact on the quality of life of citizens, which is why we are proud to be part of events that promote creativity and the spirit of innovation and that help Canadian municipalities thrive and prosper," said Minister Moore.

"By taking part in this young festival, the population of the Ottawa River Valley will have a unique opportunity to attract more tourism, stimulate the local economy, and reconnect with its past, while celebrating the richness of its culture."
"Revitalize the Bay can now better capitalize on the economic opportunities thanks to funding support provided through the Government of Canada's Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program," said Colleen Larivière, Executive Director, Revitalize the Bay. "This funding will allow the community to provide employment to a greater number of local artists, artisans, and entertainers and provide more heritage-themed materials and tours as part of the weekend's activities."
The Revitalize the Bay organization was incorporated in 2009. Its mandate focuses on the development of the Ottawa River Valley communities by presenting motorcycle rallies as well as artistic, cultural, and heritage activities providing a showcase for local artists, craftspeople, and musicians.
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $16,900 through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
