Zama City, Alberta
Chris Warkentin, Member of Parliament for Peace River, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced Government of Canada support to help Mackenzie County expand Zama Community Park and strengthen economic opportunities in the region.
“Our Government’s investment is creating immediate jobs and enhancing Zama Community Park as an attraction for tourists and the community,” said MP Warkentin.
Zama Community Park will expand its camping capacity with the addition of 10 new full-service campsites, including amenities such as picnic tables and fire pits. A second fish pond with a short channel and walking bridge that connects to the existing pond, will also be added to double the park’s fishing capacity. The project is expected to generate long-term economic benefits for local businesses by improving the park’s appeal and ability to accommodate outdoor tourists who travel through Zama City en route to northern fishing destinations.
Federal funding of $254,760 is being provided through the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF) as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. In addition, Mackenzie County is also providing $90,000 for the project.
“The expansion of the Zama Community Park will not only enhance the tourism attractions in the community but will also expand recreational opportunity for residents of the entire County, helping with recruiting and retention of staff in many industries,” said Mackenzie County Reeve Greg Newman.
CAF supports the most affected western Canadian communities, such as those that are heavily reliant on resource-based industries. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the fund in the four western provinces.
