CFB KINGSTON, Ont. – The Government of Canada has awarded a contract to M. Sullivan and Son Ltd. of Arnprior, Ont., for the construction of the new health services centre at CFB Kingston. This contract award brings economic benefits to the region, generating approximately 80 direct employment opportunities over the course of this work.
“As part of the Canada First Defence Strategy, this Government continues to deliver on its commitment to provide modernized infrastructure for the Canadian Forces,” said the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence. “Awarding this contract not only provides economic opportunities for the local community, but underlines this Government’s emphasis on providing first-class health-care services to the Canadian Forces wherever they serve.”
This new 6,139 m2 facility will provide comprehensive medical and dental services for the base, cadets, and staff. Construction is expected to begin in early 2010 and be completed in late 2012.
The Government of Canada conducted an open, fair, and transparent competitive process to award a contract of $14.9 million for the construction of the new health services centre at CFB Kingston.
In line with the Canada First Defence Strategy, there is a need to update and replace dated defence infrastructure to meet the challenges of the 21st century. The Government’s significant investments in defence infrastructure provide economic benefits to communities across Canada.
The Department of National Defence holds a large number of properties all across the country to support the Canadian Forces, including some 21,000 buildings, 2.25 million hectares of land, 5,500 km of roads, and 3,000 km of water, storm, and sewer pipes.
