Rosenort, Manitoba
The Town of Rosenort is moving forward with the construction of a three-mile recreation trail thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada's Economic Action Plan.
"This project will provide an improved trail for the community to enjoy in all seasons, while creating immediate jobs,
" said Minister Toews, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.
The project involves the construction of a three-mile recreation trail along the Morris auxiliary flood diversion channel, adding to the existing trail that follows the Morris River. The trail will be used for walking and bicycling in the summer and cross-country skiing in the winter. It will include pedestrian bridges spanning natural water run-off, drainage ditches, one creek and the Morris River.
Funding of $50,000 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada's Economic Action Plan.
"Our government's Economic Action Plan will enable us to make this recreation opportunity available to our community,
" said Darren Plett, River Trail Coordinator. "The Rosenort River Trail is intended to provide a recreation opportunity that will be utilized by all ages; bring the community together; encourage people to enjoy a piece of nature right in our own backyard; and present a small picture of our community's history, particularly our long-standing fight against spring flooding.
"
The Town of Rosenort is widespread. The recreation trail will tie together the shopping area, old and new residential areas, schools, an arena and a park. It will also encourage physical activity for people of all ages and improve safety for children who will be able to use the trail for walking or biking to school, the arena or the park, instead of crossing the provincial highway.
The RInC program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. In total, WD has approved 718 RInC projects that will use all of the funding available in the West. These projects are helping provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
