The Wood’s Homes Society is moving forward with the revitalization of the recreational facilities at two Wood’s Homes Campuses in Calgary thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“Through the Economic Action Plan, our Government is pleased to invest in initiatives such as this that create jobs in our community, while also encouraging physical activity for children, youth and families,
” said MP Rob Anders, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.
Wood’s Homes Society is a registered not-for-profit group that provides guidance to high risk children and families. The improvements will occur at the Bowness and Parkdale campuses. At Bowness Campus, the existing basketball court will undergo renovations and a multi-purpose court, skate-park and climbing poles will be added. The Parkdale Campus will receive a new basketball court, climbing poles and a multi-purpose area for families. Residents from the surrounding community will also be encouraged to take advantage of the new installations.
Federal funding of $241,389 is provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
Dr. Jane Matheson, CEO of Wood’s Homes, stated, “All kids love to play and we know how important physical activity is for everyone’s health. We are very grateful to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada program for these funds to help us create child and youth-friendly spaces both for the young people of at Wood’s Homes and the communities of Bowness and Parkdale.
”
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
