YARMOUTH, Nova Scotia, March 25, 2010 - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Greg Kerr, Member of Parliament (West Nova), today announced funding for the South West Shore Development Authority's heritage work in southwestern Nova Scotia.
Three heritage organizations-the Yarmouth County Museum and Archives, the Musée des Acadiens des Pubnicos, and the Cape Forchu Lightstation-will benefit from new funding for specialized equipment. This project involves the purchase and installation of industry-standard media equipment to facilitate interpretative activities at all three Yarmouth County sites. The project will allow these important heritage organizations to more effectively provide visitors with information about their public programming and exhibitions.
"Our Government's commitment to supporting the arts is unwavering," said Minister Moore. "We trust that our investments in the South West Shore Development Authority will ensure that cultural institutions in southwestern Nova Scotia will thrive for years to come."

"By investing in the South West Shore Development Authority's museum and historical site interpretation project, the Government of Canada is ensuring that heritage organizations in Yarmouth County are using up-to-date technology and equipment in serving their visitors."
"Support from the Government of Canada will make it possible to complete the design and production of innovative specialized equipment for six museums and historic sites in our community," said Rod Rose, Chair of the South West Shore Development Authority. "By providing new cultural learning opportunities, these new bilingual interpretive media will contribute to the revitalization of several key attractions throughout Yarmouth and Acadian Shores."
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $30,533 through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund (formerly Cultural Spaces Canada). This program of the Department of Canadian Heritage seeks to improve physical conditions for artistic creativity and arts presentation or exhibition. It is also designed to increase access for Canadians to performing, visual, and media arts and to museum collections and heritage displays.
The Government of Canada is investing $540 million in the arts and culture sector to stimulate the economy as part of Canada's Economic Action Plan. It also recently renewed funding for federal arts programs totaling $1.51 billion over the next five years.
