Message from Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, on the Occasion of the Closing of the XXI Olympic Winter Games
OTTAWA—The XXI Olympic Winter Games have ended in a blaze of glory for Canadians! We are exhilarated and united in pride! What a magical moment!
While the lights are going down on these unforgettable Vancouver Olympiads, the flame will continue to light up our faces and burn in our hearts for a long time.
Athletes from every corner of the globe have made Canada a showcase of courage and achievement, of dedication and talent, and of the triumph of tenacity and discipline; and our own athletes have added a brilliant page to Canadian sports history. I want to take this opportunity to wholeheartedly congratulate them, as well as all of the coaches, organizers and volunteers who have helped make this bold dream a phenomenal success.
Let us all hope that the enduring memory of the so many demonstrations of humanity through inspiration, determination and team spirit, which marked these Games just as much as personal achievements, will take us to new heights of solidarity!
And now let's move forward to the Paralympic Games!
