REGINA, March 22, 2010 – The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), "Depot" Division, is pleased to announce that it will host the legendary RCMP Musical Ride and hold an open house of the RCMP Academy as part of its year-long festivities to commemorate the Division's 125th anniversary.
"It is fitting that Depot retraces its roots by showcasing the Division with the help of the Musical Ride, whose first official recorded performance took place in Regina in 1887 just two years after the Division's inception," says "Depot" Division Commanding Officer, A/Commr. Roger L. Brown.
"Both the Musical Ride and Depot are recognized worldwide as symbols of excellence. Uniting them will be a unique opportunity for families to experience part of Canada's heritage while catching an unprecedented glimpse into the modern-day training of future members of Canada's national police agency," adds Brown. "It is also our opportunity to embrace the City of Regina in the same manner in which it has embraced us for the last 125 years."
The Musical Ride will perform rain or shine at Depot on Sunday, July 4, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and on Monday, July 5 at 7 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs or blankets. Visitors will be able to visit the stables and meet the Ride members.
Tickets for the Musical Ride are $10 for adults and free for children under 12. Tickets will be available as of March 25 during regular operating hours from the Habitat for Humanity Regina Restore, the RCMP Heritage Centre and Affinity Credit Union branches. Tickets will also be sold at the Regina Spring Home Show, March 25–28 at the Canada Centre Building, Evraz Place. All proceeds will go to Mountie House, a joint partnership between "Depot" Division and Habitat for Humanity Regina to build a home for a deserving family.
On show days, admission to the RCMP Heritage Centre will be half price for Musical Ride ticket holders and free for children 12 and under. Patrons will also receive a 10% discount on their purchases at the gift shop.
The Depot open house will take place on Sunday, July 4 between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. It is free of charge. Members of the public will have a chance to visit the Division's historic chapel, as well as a number of normally restricted venues. Cadets will be on hand to demonstrate their skills in a variety of disciplines including drill, police defensive tactics, fitness and firearms to name but a few. Special interactive activities are also planned for our younger audience.
"Depot" Division, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Regina, would like to thank Affinity Credit Union for bringing the Musical Ride to Regina, the City of Regina for its generous support and the RCMP Heritage Centre.
Come and experience the sights and sounds of the world-famous RCMP Musical Ride and don't miss this rare opportunity to see what happens behind the scenes at Depot.
