OTTAWA, March 28, 2010 - Our Government recognizes that arts and culture are at the heart of our identity and that creativity and originality are crucial to the vitality of our cultural sector.
In 2009, Quebec cinema claimed the limelight with top-quality productions that achieved outstanding success on screens in Quebec, across Canada, and around the world. The films that debuted during the year showcased new talent, highlighted the creativity and passion of our artists, and became favourites of movie fans around the world. Celebrating this excellence is the purpose of the 12th Soirée des Jutra, an event that honours the talent and boldness of our creators, whether they work in front of the camera or behind it.
On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I would like to commend everyone involved in Quebec cinema. It is a delight to see your skill and artistic creativity. The entire country shares in your successes. I would also like to congratulate all this year's nominees and award winners.
