OTTAWA - The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence and regional Minister for Newfoundland and Labrador, today issued the following statement on the first anniversary of the crash of Cougar Flight 491:
"Today we remember with deep sorrow the loss of seventeen lives in the disaster of March 12, 2009. A year has passed already, but the feelings of shock and grief we experienced at first news of the tragedy remain fresh in our hearts. Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are joined today by Canadians everywhere in solemn remembrance of those lost. We extend our deepest sympathies to their families and friends. They are in our prayers."
