Prime Minister Stephen Harper today tabled in Parliament the 17th Annual Report to the Prime Minister on the Public Service of Canada from the Clerk of the Privy Council, Secretary to the Cabinet and Head of the Public Service, Wayne G. Wouters.
“As outlined in the Speech from the Throne, the Public Service of Canada is a critical national institution,” said the Prime Minister. “I welcome this report’s encouraging emphasis on innovation and finding better ways of doing business. Maintaining a world-class public service supports a strong and successful country.”
The Clerk’s report highlights the accomplishments of the Public Service over the past year, including implementation of the Government’s Economic Action Plan, preparing for and responding to the H1N1 pandemic, responding to the crisis in Haiti, and providing support for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
The Seventeenth Annual Report details the progress made by departments and agencies to meet their renewal commitments. Furthermore, it commits to deepen and extend renewal in four priority areas: integrated business and human resources planning, recruitment, employee development and renewing the workplace (formerly enabling infrastructure).
The Clerk’s Report is available on the Privy Council Office website (www.pco-bcp.gc.ca) and the Clerk’s newly launched website (www.clerk.gc.ca).
