Auditor General's Spring 2010 Report tabled in the House of Commons

News Release

Ottawa, 20 April 2010-The Auditor General of Canada's Spring 2010 Report was tabled today in the House of Commons.

A number of chapters in the Report, along with a report on the electronic health records initiative also tabled today, touch on government investments involving billions of dollars and the need for long-term planning to fund them.

The titles of the chapters and news releases are as follows:

Chapter 1-Aging Information Technology Systems
"Government not doing enough to address the aging of IT systems"

Chapter 2-Modernizing Human Resource Management
"Key legislative changes to human resource management are in place but impacts are still unclear"

Chapter 3-Rehabilitating the Parliament Buildings
"Governance arrangements limit progress on rehabilitating the Parliament buildings"

Chapter 4-Sustaining Development in the Northwest Territories
"More federal action needed to sustain balanced development in NWT"

Chapter 5-Scientific Research-Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada
"Agricultural research is not well managed by department"

Chapter 6-Special Examinations of Crown Corporations-2009
"Auditor General provides overview of special examinations of Crown corporations for 2009"

In addition, a report signed by the Auditor General and six of her provincial counterparts was also tabled in the House of Commons today. "Electronic Health Records in Canada-An Overview of Federal and Provincial Audit Reports" provides an overview of the reports of audits carried out over the past year that looked at how electronic health records are being developed and implemented in the reporting jurisdictions.
