La Crete, Alberta
Chris Warkentin, Member of Parliament for Peace River, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced Government of Canada support to help the La Crete Ferry Campground Society strengthen economic opportunities in the area.
“Our Government’s investment in the La Crete Ferry Campground is creating jobs while improving a local attraction that will benefit the community and help draw visitors to our region,” said MP Warkentin.
Federal funding is directed towards expanding the La Crete Ferry Campground by creating 30 additional campsites and enhancing existing amenities. The project includes activities such as developing roads to the campsites, as well as installing electrical and water systems, signage, picnic tables and fire pits. Expansion of the campground will create immediate employment opportunities and encourage tourists to camp in the area, providing further benefits for local businesses.
“Mackenzie County is very pleased to be able to work with our local communities to provide recreational services to the public,” said William Kostiw, Chief Administrative Officer for Mackenzie County.
Federal funding of $117,676 is being provided through the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF) as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. In addition, Mackenzie County is providing $50, 000 in support for the project.
"The La Crete Ferry Campground Society is very grateful for all the funding that has been provided for the expansion of our new campsite, which will create local employment opportunities and promote tourism in our northern Alberta communities,” said John Krahn, President of the La Crete Ferry Campground Society.
CAF supports the most affected western Canadian communities, such as those that are heavily reliant on resource-based industries. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the fund in the four western provinces.
