Kananaskis, Alberta
Ted Menzies, Member of Parliament for Macleod and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finance, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, announced Government of Canada support to help revitalize Easter Seals Camp Horizon and strengthen economic opportunities in the Kananaskis Improvement District.
“Our Government’s investment towards enhancing Easter Seals Camp Horizon is creating immediate jobs while helping to ensure this important facility can continue providing valuable programs and services for campers with special needs,” said MP Menzies.
Federal funding is directed towards replacing the current cedar shake roofing on the camp’s main hall with a reinforced metal roof that will extend the building’s life and reduce future repair costs. In addition to creating short-term employment opportunities, the project also contributes to the five-year redevelopment plan for enabling Easter Seals Camp Horizon to upgrade its amenities and continue meeting the needs of the region.
Federal funding of $324,520 is being provided through the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF) as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“We are so excited that this critical funding has come through for the revitalization of Easter Seals Camp Horizon,” said Anne Ewen, board member for Easter Seals Alberta. “The main hall of camp is iconic in its importance to the hundreds of campers with disabilities who come to our facility every year, and this funding means we can keep this building in use for many more years to come.”
Easter Seals Camp Horizon is operated by the Alberta Easter Seals Society, a non-profit charitable organization. The camp is a leading outdoor recreation facility for individuals of all abilities, including children and adults with special needs, and serves approximately 7,500 individuals each year.
CAF supports the most affected western Canadian communities, such as those that are heavily reliant on resource-based industries. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the fund in the four western provinces.
