Fredericton Junction, New Brunswick
The Atlantic Dairy and Forage Institute (ADFI) is exploring new opportunities for regional and international growth, thanks to an investment by the federal government, through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
The Honourable Greg Thompson, MP New Brunswick Southwest made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway along with ADFI officials.
“Our government investment of more than $30,000 supports the development of a strategic plan that will enhance Atlantic Dairy and Forage Institute’s capacity to develop the ruminant market and the dairy sector both regionally and internationally,” said the Honourable Greg Thompson. “This will in turn create and maintain science related jobs right here in rural New Brunswick.”
The development of a strategic plan will highlight the ADFI’s expertise in nutrition research services, and help the organization to position itself as an international leader in providing solutions for challenges currently faced by dairy producers.
ADFI is a non-profit, private research organization with expertise in conducting nutritional and reproductive research trials with lactating dairy cows. It has a reputation for excellence in dairy research particularly several laboratory procedures pertaining to the nutritional analysis of animal feeds and forage crops.
“Support from ACOA to help develop our strategic plan has been critical to building a solid business case that there is a strong international market for our ruminant nutrition services, while also demonstrating that Atlantic Dairy and Forage Institute’s research helps to create a sustainable and environmentally friendly dairy industry well into the future,” said Mr. Wiebe Dykstra, Executive Director Atlantic Dairy and Forage Institute.
The Government of Canada, through ACOA, is investing $30,250 toward the project under the Innovative Communities Fund while the Atlantic Dairy and Forage Institute is contributing $8,000.
