The Town of Charlottetown in Labrador will construct a walking trail and day park with the help of funding provided by the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF), a key economic stimulus initiative under the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, announced funding of more than $99,000 to enable the Town of Charlottetown to establish the community’s first tourism building initiative.
“Through stimulus initiatives like the CAF program we are assisting communities across the country who have been affected by the global economic downturn,” said Minister Ashfield. “In establishing a walking trail, Charlottetown adds to the offerings of the regional tourism sector, generates additional local economic activity, supports local jobs and ensures that area residents have access to valuable recreational infrastructure.”
The Town of Charlottetown will construct a 3.5 kilometre historical walking trail and day park, which will act as a stepping stone to accomplish the community’s goal of establishing the first portion of a plan for the region called “Sharing Our Way of Life With the World.” The community anticipates an increase in the need for tourism infrastructure in light of recent improvements to the Trans Labrador Highway.
The CAF program is providing $1 billion over two years to help create jobs and maintain employment in communities impacted by the economic downturn. In Atlantic Canada, CAF is delivered by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
