The Sunshine Coast Regional District has completed aquatic facility upgrades, thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada's Economic Action Plan.
"Through Canada's Economic Action Plan, our Government is investing in projects like this to create jobs and strengthen our communities for many years to come," said John Weston, Member of Parliament for West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification.
An investment of $661,370 helped create a more sustainable and user-friendly Pender Harbour Aquatic and Fitness Centre. The project included energy efficiency upgrades, creation of an outdoor patio and replacement of the flooring and pool deck. The Centre's re-opening will coincide with its 30th anniversary celebration.
Federal funding was provided through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program as part of Canada's Economic Action Plan.
"The RInC grant helped us bring new life to the 30 year-old Pender Harbour facility. The centre is a great community asset and used by over 14,000 visitors per year," says Donna Shugar, Chair of the Sunshine Coast Regional District. "I want to thank staff and the Board for their continuing efforts to provide quality recreation facilities for the Sunshine Coast community."
The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. In total, Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) has approved 718 RInC projects that will use all of the funding available in the West. These projects are helping provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
