Symphony New Brunswick received a financial boost today, thanks to a Government of Canada investment of over $250,000. Saint John MP Rodney Weston made the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway and the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
“Our government is proud to support Symphony New Brunswick in its efforts to improve the quality of New Brunswick’s only full scale symphony orchestra,” said MP Weston. “ACOA’s investment of $170,000 will help Symphony New Brunswick maximize its impact in the New Brunswick region and become more self-sustaining. The Government recognizes that organizations like the Symphony are a cultural and economic asset for the region.”
“Symphony New Brunswick makes an exceptional contribution to the province by promoting classical music,” said Minister Moore. “Our Government is proud to help provide financial stability to this organization in this time of economic uncertainty by matching private sector donations and encouraging further donations.”
M.P. Weston was joined at the announcement by the President of Symphony New Brunswick Foundation, Mr. Reid Parker. “The two federal investments announced today are key elements in helping to transform Symphony New Brunswick into a much more viable and visible part of New Brunswick’s cultural scene and a truly Provincial organization,” said Mr. Parker. “Without the partnership of ACOA and Canadian Heritage, realizing our plans would be much more difficult, so their financial encouragement is very much appreciated.”
Symphony New Brunswick will receive total funding of $257,233. ACOA is providing $170,000 under its Business Development Program. The Business Development Program aims at investing in community infrastructure and organizations that lay the foundation for long-term growth and supporting projects that expands economic opportunities. Canadian Heritage, through a second project, is providing $87,233 through its Endowment Incentives component of the Canada Cultural Investment Fund to match private sector donations to Symphony New Brunswick’s endowment fund. The Canada Cultural Investment Fund aims to encourage modern management and greater financial stability in arts and heritage organizations.
