Baie Sainte-Anne, New Brunswick
Residents of Baie Sainte-Anne and surrounding areas will soon enjoy an improved arena facility thanks to a combined contribution of $868,000 from the federal and provincial governments. Miramichi MP Tilly O’Neill-Gordon, on behalf of the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of National Revenue, Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, and the Honourable Shawn Graham, Premier of New Brunswick, made the announcement today.
The federal government is contributing $368,000 through the Recreational Infrastructure Canada program (RInC), a key economic stimulus initiative under the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. The province of New Brunswick is investing $500,000, while Aréna Adé Thériault Inc. is providing $232,000 toward the project.
“Our government recognizes the importance of good, local recreational infrastructure to Canadians everywhere,” said Ms.O’Neill-Gordon. “That’s why under our government’s Economic Action Plan we are helping communities across the country to renew these valuable community assets while creating jobs and lasting benefits for local residents like the citizens of Baie Ste-Anne.”
Upgrades to the arena will include structural modifications to strengthen the roof; the construction of a storage shed for ice making equipment; the replacement of the refrigeration system, rink boards, safety glass and lighting. The renovations involve the installation of new washroom facilities, a heated area for spectators, and a new clock/scoreboard for the arena.
“The Aréna Adé Thériault plays a vital role in the life of the community, said Premier Shawn Graham. “This Baie Sainte-Anne project will allow residents to continue to be active and thrive as we work together to achieve a healthier and self-sufficient New Brunswick”
Canada's Economic Action Plan is providing $500 million over two years for the RInC program to support the upgrading and renewal of recreational facilities in communities. The RInC program, which concludes on March 31, 2011, is delivered in Atlantic Canada by ACOA.
