OTTAWA–Commodore Hans Jung, the Canadian Forces Surgeon General, today presented the Canadian Forces Medallion for Distinguished Service to the Ottawa Hospital, on behalf of the Chief of the Defence Staff. The Medallion and accompanying certificate were presented to Dr Jack Kitts, President and CEO of the Ottawa Hospital, at the Civic Campus. The hospital was recognized for providing superlative care to injured military personnel, and training and clinical opportunities for the members of Canadian Forces Health Services, through a long-standing partnership.
"The Ottawa Hospital has given support to the men and women of the Canadian Forces when they have needed it the most,"said the Chief of the Defence Staff General Walt Natynczyk, in Ottawa. "Our strong relationships with civilian care providers like the Ottawa Hospital ensure that our soldiers, sailors, airmen and airwomen get the very best care from the whole community."
The Medallion is awarded to recognize outstanding service performed by persons (or organizations) outside the active military community. It is awarded for service of a rare and exceptionally high standard, which accrues great benefit to the CF as a whole.
"I had the privilege to present this recognition to the Ottawa Hospital, an exceptional partner that provides top-of-the-line care for our injured military personnel, and provides, as well, indispensible training and clinical opportunities for the members of Canadian Forces Health Services,"said Cmdre Jung.
While Canadian Forces Health Services and the Ottawa Hospital have been partners in care for generations, it is in delivering high-quality trauma care and surgical services to military personnel returning wounded from Afghanistan that the hospital has most recently exceeded expectations.
"We are honoured to continue to care for the men and women who serve this country,"said Dr. Kitts. "Our relationship with the Canadian Forces is an excellent example of our ability to bring innovative treatments and world class care to those who need it most."
