Sudbury, Ontario, May 13, 2010 – The Sudbury branch of the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) has reached a major milestone. It was 50 years ago today that it opened its doors to entrepreneurs in Sudbury and the surrounding area.
"Since 1960, BDC has been reaching out to entrepreneurs in the greater Sudbury area and throughout northern Ontario" says Tim Whalen, District Manager at BDC. "We are proud of the role BDC has played in helping small businesses in the region grow and prosper."
The branch has grown right along with entrepreneurs over the last 50 years. Today, a dedicated team of 14 employees brings diverse talents and skills to play in tailoring business solutions to the specific needs of area clients. The team has provided financing and consulting services to businesses in the mining supply and services sector as well as to a widening spectrum of emerging industries in the region. "The combination of financing and consulting services enables us to deliver integrated business solutions," says Whalen. "This includes, for example, supporting local entrepreneurs in taking their businesses beyond domestic markets."
In the past 18 months, BDC Sudbury has also played an active role in helping local businesses weather the recession. The branch received an unprecedented number of loan applications and responded by providing record levels of working capital support to eligible clients.

"As an integral part of this community, the BDC Sudbury team understands and responds to their evolving needs with innovative solutions.
