QUÉBEC – Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Quebec Region, announced that on April 14, 2010, Jean‑Yves Mercier, of Port-Cartier, was fined $750 by judge Louise Gallant for fishing for Greenland halibut using nets with a mesh size under 152 mm.
The Department has a mandate to protect and conserve fishery resources and is ever vigilant in its efforts to prevent poaching of marine resources.
